“A BRAND IS [A] SET OF EXPECTATIONS, MEMORIES STORIES AND RELATIONSHIPS…” ~ Seth Godin
When meandering around old Montreal last year I came across a new hotel that had just opened on Rue Saint-Paul – “Le Petit Hôtel.”
The hotel is the newest addition to the boutique hotel & restaurant portfolio of The Antonopoulos Group. I had experienced some of their
other venues in a past visit to Montreal - Hôtel Place d’Armes, Rainspa, Suite 701, Verses Restaurant and Méchant Bœuf Bar-Brasserie. My experience with each – the hotel, the spa, and both restaurants was exquisite! Service. Style. Sex appeal. All very luxurious but with accessible rates.
“Le Petit Hôtel” seems to be geared to a slight twist in demographic when compared to Hôtel Place d’Armes – Gen Xers, like me, who may be visiting Montreal on business and require a tech savvy environment to run the office away from the office but want the aesthetic pleasure that the chain hotels cannot give - perhaps so that one can feel that the business trip is more like a holiday where serendipity may be an
accompanying guest, with the beauty of Old Montreal literally on your doorstep.
The logo carries a Douglas Coupland-like desire that 30 & 40-somethings seem to have for childhood nostalgia; a reference and a
reminder of leisure, the logo calls to mind the cute, little plastic hotel one may find sitting on Boardwalk or Baltic Ave (depending on your
luck) on the Monopoly board. The logo and everything about “Le Petit Hôtel”, when I got the tour, is playful; the choice of juicy tangerine
braced against a more staid gray (the tension one might feel between having to choose to act as an adult while still longing for the
simplicity of a ‘70s summer afternoon?); the furniture is fun; the art lowbrow recalling memories of decorating my bro’s skateboard deck
in the 80s.
