"MY EYES ARE GREEN CAUSE I EAT A LOT OF VEGETABLES." ~ from 'Green Eyes' by Erykah Badu
I do eat a lot of vegetables but I am guessing my eyes are green for other reasons. A fellow green eyed friend told me that only 2% of the world’s population has green eyes. We are rare.
Green eyes show up where cultures cross. Spain. North Africa. Afghanistan following old trade routes. Kashmir. The Caribbean. Mongolia. Places where Indiana Jones adventures occur and treasures are found. Ancient places rooted with old stories and exotic lineages.
For those of us with green eyes, the colour of our eyes is often ambiguous and the colour of our eyes can shift with the seasons as well as our moods. Green eyes hold mystery while at the same time exposing emotions with raw transparency.
Green eyes are intense. As though we can see through to the soul. I have been accused of being a witch on more than one occasion due
to the severity of my green eyed gaze. I won’t disclose here if I am or not.
As a continuation of the main theme that drives my photographic portraiture work – diversity and intersections of culture - I am taking submissions of subjects in the GTA area who have green eyes and would like to be included in my documentation.
